Seven Characteristics of Supersonic Dancers

  • Are aware of the community on the floor: dance with an awareness of one’s movements, one’s frame, the proper giving of weight, and the space within the hall.
  • Dance with a variety of partners regardless of age, body type, gender expression.
  • Are role models of consensual behavior on the dance floor.
  • Swap roles or engage in other play when it is done with the utmost regard for the integrity of the dance and the line and with partner consent.
  • Take time and effort to appreciate the talent of the callers and the bands.
  • Avoid pre-booking and enjoy the spontaneity of seeking a new partner for each dance for a variety of experiences.
  • Ensure our clothes and selves are 100% fragrance-free when attending Supersonic.

Registration Lottery New this year

This year, registration for Supersonic is by lottery.

You can enter the lottery any time from Wednesday, October 28 at noon Pacific through Wednesday, November 4 at noon Pacific. When you enter during that window won’t affect your chances. The entry link will be posted on this website when the lottery opens.

After the lottery closes, the list of entries will be randomized by someone unaffiliated with the weekend. Shortly thereafter, you’ll hear from us about whether you have a spot or are on the waitlist. You will receive an email letting you know either way. If you have a spot, the email will include a link to pay. You will have a week to pay before your spot is offered to someone on the waitlist. All payments must be made electronically.

Entering as a group

By registering together on a single registration, you are entering the lottery as a group. A group registration counts as one entry: either everyone in the group gets a spot, or everyone goes on the waitlist together. Entering as part of a group doesn’t change your chances — it just keeps you together.

Wellness

Supersonic Contra Dance Weekend will follow the mask guidelines of the weekly Seattle contra dances. Currently, masks are optional. This is subject to change. Any updates to this policy will be announced in email and on the website. KN95 masks will be available.

We ask everyone to take a Covid test on Friday, before arriving at the weekend. This will be on the honor system. If you test positive, email info@supersoniccontra.dance immediately.

If you feel unwell, please do not attend. If you feel unwell during the weekend, please notify the organizers immediately, leave the dance as soon as possible, and then send a follow-up email within 24 hours if you wish to receive a refund. Full refunds will be given minus any transaction fees incurred.

Waiver

You will need to sign a waiver electronically as part of the registration process.

Cancellation Policy

All cancellations will incur a $25 administrative fee.

Cancel by December 31: Full refund, minus the administrative fee.

Cancel by January 25: Receive a refund minus the administrative fee if we can fill your spot.

Cancel after January 25: Refunds minus the administrative fee will only be given in the event of illness or emergency.

Please note that if paying by credit card, we cannot control the time it takes our credit card processor to issue a refund to your card or any card fees you incur.

Registration is not transferable. Please contact info@supersoniccontra.dance if you need to cancel.

Food and Water

This is a high-energy weekend with only a few official breaks. Meals are your own responsibility and we encourage you to enjoy the many restaurants Ballard has to offer. Snacks will be provided throughout the weekend. Water will be available, but please bring your own water bottle.

A list of restaurants around the area of the hall is available here.

Housing Accommodations

This dance weekend is in Seattle. We will do our best to find housing for out-of-town guests. Please remember that we are all volunteers, so adjust expectations accordingly. If you have attended other dance weekends in Seattle, you are strongly encouraged to make your own arrangements with friends you have stayed with before.

Do you need housing or can you offer housing to visiting dancers? Please be sure to include this as a part of your Supersonic registration.

If you have any other questions about housing or hosting guests, please email Kristin at housing@supersoniccontra.dance.
